Michelangelo was born on March 6, 1475, in the town of Caprese (now in Tuscany, Italy). Michelangelo showed both talent and interest in art at a young age, and overcame opposition from his parents to begin artistic studies at the start of his teenaged years. During his long career, he worked for Pope Julius II, Pope Leo X, Pope Clement VII, Pope Paul III, and several other influential patrons, creating masterpieces of Christian art such as David (1504) and the ceiling fresco of the Sistine Chapel (1512). He was criticized both during his life and after his death for his presumed homosexuality, but is better remembered for being a superlative painter and sculptor, as well as for his work as an architect and a poet. He died February 18, 1564, in Rome.Notable Attributes:Creativity, ArtistryPrinciples:Develop Your Talents | |
